Railroad Technology Corporation is an independent leasing company engaged in the North American railroad freight car industry. The company operates through two segments: Flat Cars and Commodity Cars. The Flat Cars segment primarily serves utilities and the power generation industry. The Commodity Cars segment serves industries spanning agriculture, forest products, oil and gas production, automotive and metals markets. The company also provides freight car engineering support and serves as Managing General Partner of FreightCar Partners, LP, a private limited partnership.

Robert M. Ness is a Managing General Partner of FreightCar Partners, LP and the Chairman, CEO and Founder of Railroad Technology Corporation and its affiliates.  Mr. Ness is nationally active in the fields of freight car leasing and intermodal transportation.  Over the past 30 years he has led a veteran team of industry professionals building the nation’s leading independent freight car lessor. Mr. Ness is widely regarded in the railroad industry for pioneering freight car engineering innovations to extend load capacities and increase service life to fleets of off-lease and otherwise non-productive assets. In 1999 he developed and launched FreightCar.com, the first web based transportation industry marketplace for worldwide disposition of off-lease capital equipment. Prior to founding Railroad Technology Corporation Mr. Ness was Portfolio Manager for Itel Corporation, a publicly traded equipment lessor with interests in freight cars, intermodal shipping containers and short line railroads. He is a donor and fundraiser for the North American Spine Foundation and the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation. Mr. Ness received a B.A. in Economics and an M.B.A. from the San Francisco State University Graduate School of Business.

 

Bob Felix is Executive Vice President & General Manager of Railroad Technology Corporation (“RTC”). Prior to joining RTC, Bob founded SRT Transportation Solutions, Inc. in 2004 (formerly Specialized Rail Transport) and for 17 years served as President of SRT and its affiliate companies. At SRT, Bob built the nation’s leading heavy capacity transportation solutions provider employing 27 industry professionals and serving many of the world’s leading original equipment manufacturers and public utilities including Siemens USA, GE Power and Duke Energy. Bob Felix is nationally active in the fields of heavy capacity rail equipment, dimensional freight and surface transportation logistics. Bob is a founding member and past President of The Railway Industrial Clearance Association (“RICA”); the Specialized Carrier & Rigging Association (“SR&RA”); and the American Railroad Engineering and Maintenance Association (“AREMA”). A U.S. Navy veteran, Bob Felix earned degrees in Economics and Business Management from Northeastern Illinois University. Bob currently serves on the Advisory Board of the University of Houston.
